Well the conference is coming to a close. I absolutely loved the messages yesterday. A few of them were honestly very refreshing- clear messages about topics we always have in the back of our minds, but about which NO ONE ever talks about anywhere in the media. The men who speak at this conference are fearless in their testimonies against evil, and I love to hear them speak.
The work is changing. We had another zone leader conference, and president outlined to us the few changes that our key indicadors are going to experience. The greatest change is that we are now going to count less actives re-activated (or persons "rescued") in our main indicadors. President douglas himself is very exited, becuase he talks about how no matter how many people you baptize, whehn they just go inactive after a few months, it doesnt really matter. A lot of the work is simply lost.
And yes, someone else will come along some day and find them and reactivate them, but there is a lot of wasted effort in the middle. Finally, the church is putting as much emphasis on finding and baptizing, as it is on finding and reactivating and bringing back to the fold. And I promise you, that in just a few years, the numbers will truly skyrocket. We are about to see miracles in this work, in this world.
Also, I think Elder Bednar and Elder Holland´s talks (the ones I was anticipating more than anything) came out very straightforward and clear. I really was just impacted by elder Bednar´s talk on tithing and the simple money-saving tactics the church uses, and I know that what he spoke about was something so many people needed to hear. I feel that the times ahead really can´t get much better financially for a lot of people (especially hearing about the state in which the U.S. government is in.) I think everyone would do well to please look at our finances and make some big desicions regarding what we can and really can´t be spending money on..
We went to these cool litle shops and restaurants in historic Barranco (my area!!) kinda out on an rocky cliff overlooking the bay. I just kept thinking, mom would absolutely love these little places. That bridge i´m on is the puente de los suspiros, or the bridge of sighs. it´s kinda like a wishing bridge in the stories and legends. I think you´re supposed to walk across without breathing and make a wish to the virgin of Guadalupe or something.. ... i dont know.. But yeah it´s kinda pretty.
Hope you all have a wonderful week!
